Unit: ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY
Date of Death:
Age:

The name of A Dransfield is recorded on the Heaton Moor and Stockport War Memorials. In the latter case, it is amongst those serving with the Artillery.

It has not been possible to identify this man with any degree of certainty. Only two men with this name and initial served abroad as an artilleryman and only one is recorded as having died. This is Gunner Albert Dransfield, 204771, 107th Brigade. He died, aged 20, in a military hospital at Boulogne on 1 May 1918. He was born in Saddleworth, enlisted at Uppermill and his next of kin is recorded by the War Graves Commission as being his mother, Frances Dransfield, Gorsey Hall, Delph, Oldham. It has not been possible to identify any connection he might have had with the Stockport area, but must be the most likely candidate for the man remembered locally.
