Regimental records indicate that George had been born in Handforth, Cheshire. However, the 1901 Census indicates that a boy of that age had been born in nearby Cheadle and, at the time of the Census, was living in Great Budworth. This boy’s father, possibly Jonah, was a police constable. His mother, aged 33 , was Clara and there was a two year son called Laurence. This is probably the same person. In later life, George married Kathleen and became a regular soldier. It is not known if he was still serving when War was declared or if he was recalled as a reservist. He was killed during a tour of duty in the front line described here. After the war, Kathleen was living at 181 Leopold Street, Belfast.
