Charles Cyril BROCKLEBANK
Rank:
Number:
Unit: MCR UNIV OFFICER CADET
Date of Death: 18 November 1918
Age:
Cemetery:

The Armistice which brought an end to four years of fighting had been signed a week before Charles’ death and he had not yet joined the military. However, his commitment to do so had the War continued was sufficient for local people to want to commemorate him on the Heaton moor War Memorial.

His parents were Charles and Martha Brocklebank and he had an older brother, Robert. It wasa comfortable middle class upbringing – Charles, senior,  was a successful travelling salesman dealing in tea and coffee. The 1901 Census show them to be living at 6 Moorside Road, Heaton Moor and Charles’ income allowed the family to employ a live-in general servant, 18 year old Louisa Ratcliffe. In 1918, the family had moved to “Waingroves”, Ellesmere Road, Heaton Chapel.
